Meet the Maker
For generations, the dinner table has been the heart of my family's home. Every occasion was planned around a meal — and quickly, every meal became an occasion. I grew up on meals passed down the family tree, decoding handwritten recipes, and making certain dishes in memory of those who had passed.
After moving to Southwest Florida, I noticed a change of pace beyond the everyday interactions I cherished. The threat of hurricanes and the effects of natural disasters challenged my education, my job, and my living situation — on a larger scale, it challenged my community.
Ceramics has been my way of navigating all of the unknown of the everyday. Challenging all of that uncertainty with some intention and just a bit of control has made the unknown a little less frightening. Being able to sit and reflect as I make my work, and communicate with others through it and build a community, is the most impactful outcome of all.
